Rich in history

The Abbotts' kitchen was lovingly handcrafted for their stunning Grade II listed farmhouse a property rich in history and beautiful stonework, with a timeless charm all of its own. Original features and characterful details run throughout the home, but as their family grew and their day-to-day life changed, our clients realised the old kitchen layout simply couldn't keep pace. What once worked well for everyday cooking no longer gave them the room they needed for hosting treasured family get-togethers, festive celebrations, and the kind of relaxed entertaining they'd always hoped for.

Recognising how important it was to create a home that truly worked for their growing family, the clients took the exciting step of extending their property with a thoughtfully planned side extension. Far more than just additional square footage, this addition was designed to complement the farmhouse's existing character while opening up the space for modern family life. The result was a transformation of their kitchen into a bright, open-plan area, flooded with natural light, giving us the perfect blank canvas to design and craft a brand-new kitchen that honoured the home's heritage while meeting the needs of the family for years to come.

Creating a harmonious balance

The kitchen features a two-tone colour scheme that beautifully suits the space. The surrounding Shaker cabinetry is finished in a clean, crisp white, blending effortlessly with the room's architecture for a bright, airy feel. The kitchen island, by contrast, is finished in a bold, deeper shade, deliberately chosen to make it stand out as the heart of the room. This striking accent colour draws the eye and brings depth and richness to the design, striking a lovely balance between light and dark. Throughout this carefully considered kitchen, you'll find a number of beautifully crafted display features, each chosen to reflect our clients' personality and the memories that matter most to them. One particular highlight is the bespoke shelving unit tucked into the corner beside the countertop cupboard. Built from solid oak, these custom shelves are as practical as they are charming, offering a warm spot to store and display a much-loved cookbook collection.

Above the hob, the canopy is topped with an elegant mantle — the perfect place to display our client's collection of decorative plates. It's a feature that adds real character to the room and creates a lovely focal point, letting these special pieces be enjoyed every day. Just beside the mantle, in another well-used corner, we added a glazed wall cabinet designed to show off their treasured glassware. The glass-fronted doors offer a glimpse into their carefully curated collection, making this a feature that's both eye-catching and practical. At one end of the kitchen sits one of our most popular features, the countertop cupboard. Versatile and hard-working, it comes complete with practical bi-folding doors, built-in oak shelving, energy-efficient LED lighting, and extra countertop space. Its real charm lies in how neatly it tucks everything away behind closed doors, keeping things tidy and organised, even on the busiest mornings.
