The history never left

The house carries its age well. With origins in the Georgian era, it has a depth of character that no new build could replicate and rather than working against that, the renovation was built around it. Original beams were kept exactly where they belong, and the antique game hooks fixed into the kitchen ceiling were preserved without question. Details like these are what give an old house its character, and they deserved to stay.

The kitchen was designed with that same respect for the past. Every decision was made with the building's history in mind, drawing on the quiet refinement that defines Georgian architecture. Walnut runs throughout the space, the deep tone and natural grain feel entirely at home here, warm and considered, with a richness that sits comfortably alongside centuries-old timbers and the stories held within these walls.

A countryside haven

The tall open shelving is one of our favourite touches in this kitchen. Practical in purpose but personal in feel, the shelves offer space to store and display in equal measure, a place for everyday essentials alongside the pieces that mean something. They keep the room feeling open and uncluttered, with a quiet rustic quality that sits naturally within the wider design.

Generous in size and considered in layout is the island, it gives any keen cook the kind of space they actually need. It also draws people in, the way a good island always does, becoming the natural place to gather whether a family meal is being put together or friends have come over for the evening. Beneath the worktop, additional storage keeps everything close at hand.

Walnut continues through the cabinetry, pulling the whole space together. The warmth of the wood sits comfortably alongside cleaner, more contemporary fixtures and appliances, respecting the age of the building without being defined by it. Beneath the surface, the kitchen works just as hard as it looks. Soft-close drawers, integrated lighting, and carefully chosen appliances all play their part in making daily life that little bit smoother.

For a house with this much history, it felt important to get this room right. We handcrafted a kitchen that feels as though it has always been here, while quietly being everything a modern home needs and will be enjoyed for many years to come.
