Gwernyfed Project
Handcrafted in our Florence collection shaker across a 17th-century Welsh manor. The kitchen, bedroom, dressing room and office, all painted in 'Latona 100'. Iron hardware and bold a granite worktop adds contrast in the kitchen.
Honouring the heritage
Tucked into the Welsh countryside and surrounded by flowering gardens and open views across rolling green hills, The Old Gwernyfed Manor is a 17th-century property that has been thoughtfully restored and brought back to life as a warm family home. It is the kind of place that asks to be treated with care, and when we were invited to design a kitchen and a series of bespoke furniture pieces for the project, we understood from the outset what that responsibility meant.
The brief was to create something that honoured the heritage of the building without being defined by it, a space that felt rooted in the history of the manor while remaining fresh, liveable, and entirely suited to a modern family. What came together is a kitchen, office and wardrobes that feel deeply personal and at ease within its extraordinary surroundings and built to be enjoyed for generations to come.

A manor reimagined
At the heart of this home sits a grand kitchen handcrafted in our Florence Collection, a shaker-inspired design softened with Georgian bolection moulding, it is a space built around proportion and considered detail. The Florence cabinetry felt like the right fit from the beginning, rich in historical reference yet quiet enough to let the more contemporary elements of the room, the full-height glass wall and striking spiral staircase, hold their own.
Painted in our neutral 'Latona 100', the cabinetry catches the natural light that pours through the expansive glazing and gives the whole room a gentle warmth. Against that softness, a granite worktop brings depth and definition, its dark surface grounding the palette and nodding quietly to the manor's centuries-old character.
The large central island, lit beneath the worktop, is where the kitchen earns its place as the heart of the home. The double-doored larder cupboard, for instance, appears from the outside as another clean-lined painted door framed by Georgian mouldings. Open it and you find a warm stained oak interior that stops you in your tracks. Oak shelves, deep lower drawers, twin spice racks built into the doors themselves.
The countertop cupboard at the far end of the room follows the same thinking. Bi-folding doors open to reveal a walnut interior, softly lit, housing glassware, a toaster, a kettle, and a hidden stretch of worktop. A space that moves easily from the rush of breakfast to the quiet of an evening without missing a beat.
The same care carries through the rest of the home. Fitted wardrobes, chests of drawers, and a full walk-in dressing room were all crafted in the Florence Collection and finished in 'Latona 100', bringing the same sense of calm order from room to room. Bronze handles in the dressing room offer a subtle shift in tone. The home office takes a slightly different turn, grounded by an oak worktop and iron hardware with scribing done by our skilled craftsmen to replicate the original building texture.
Across every room, The Gwernyfed Project was about more than individual pieces. It was about creating a home that feels coherent, where the past and present sit comfortably alongside one another and every detail, however small, belongs exactly where it is.
