Functional without compromise

The Glendale kitchen was lovingly handcrafted for a picturesque cottage nestled in the heart of the Herefordshire countryside. This delightful home recently underwent a thoughtful renovation, which included removing and replacing an internal wall and knocking through a separate wall to create a more open and spacious kitchen layout. Though this kitchen is one of our more compact designs, every detail has been carefully considered to enhance the flow of the space, making it feel welcoming and functional.

With cottages like this, working within the existing footprint calls for a thoughtful approach, and every inch of the new layout was designed to work as hard as possible. Clever storage solutions, considered sightlines, and a layout that makes the most of natural light all came together to ensure the kitchen never feels cramped, despite its smaller scale. The result is a space that feels far more generous than its footprint suggests, blending the cosy character of a countryside cottage with the practicality a busy family kitchen demands.

Countryside charm

At the heart of this design lies a central kitchen island, a versatile feature that perfectly complements the cottage's character. The island is an ideal spot for enjoying a morning cup of tea or catching up with loved ones. Despite its modest size, it offers generous countertop space and cleverly designed drawer storage, ensuring practicality is never sacrificed. A standout feature of the Glendale kitchen is the Shaker cabinetry, painted in 'Terra 330', one of our exclusive warm neutral tones. Our clients desired a classic, timeless colour with a hint of warmth, so we guided them away from cooler greys and blues. Instead, they fell in love with this warm brown hue, which beautifully complements the natural materials and atmosphere of their cottage. The result is a space that feels inviting, elegant, and perfectly suited to its countryside setting.

To tie the look together, brushed brass handles were chosen throughout, adding a touch of understated luxury against the rich tones of the cabinetry. Open shelving was also introduced into the design, giving our clients a lovely spot to display favourite crockery and personal touches, while softening the overall look of the kitchen. Paired with wooden worktops, these details work together to create a space that feels grounded, characterful, and entirely at home within its countryside setting.

Ultimately, the Glendale Kitchen is proof that good design isn't about scale, but about thoughtful choices. Every element, from the island to the cabinetry colour to the finishing touches, has been chosen with care, resulting in a kitchen that feels as charming and considered as the cottage it calls home.
