Classic and considered

Once a small, separate room, this space was opened up into one generous kitchen and garden room for Lorna and Roger, with huge doors leading straight out into the garden. The kitchen was handcrafted in our classic Shaker style, Ferrara, a design known for its crisp, clean lines and understated sophistication that sits comfortably against the rural backdrop beyond the glass.

They are keen cooks and confirmed social birds, so the layout was built with entertaining as much in mind as cooking. The island does most of the work, keeping whoever's at the hob part of the conversation, and the room flows naturally from cooking and socialising through to relaxing and hospitality in the garden room beyond. Storage was one of the trickier problems to solve, with only a shallow run available on the back wall, so the larders were built at a reduced depth to keep that flow uninterrupted. The old fireplace was opened up and given a new life as a grand drawer unit, now used for everyday essentials.

A statement island

Where bespoke olive green cabinetry meets a statement burnished brass island, finished with complementing handles and taps. The brass brings warmth against the green, turning the island into the natural centrepiece of the room without overpowering the Shaker simplicity around it, while orange leather bar stools add a playful contrast against the countryside palette outside.

Open shelving styled with books, orchids and trailing greenery softens the run of cabinetry, and a mix of copper and bronze pendant lighting ties the metallics together across the whole space. Warm timber flooring and a cowhide rug soften it underfoot, giving the room a collected, layered feel that is built to be lived in as much as looked at.
