A traditional country kitchen

The Putley Common Kitchen was made for a quaint cottage tucked into the Herefordshire countryside, and from the very beginning the design was shaped by the character of the building it would sit within. Our clients wanted a kitchen that felt genuinely at home here, not a modern imposition but something that belonged, and a classic country kitchen design was the natural answer.

The result is a Shaker-inspired space that captures everything a traditional country kitchen should be. Off-white cabinetry, an oak worktop, a Belfast sink, and a collection of bespoke features come together to create a room that feels considered, and completely in tune with its surroundings. It is a kitchen our clients love spending time in, and one that feels as though it has always been part of the cottage.

Crafted with care

The cabinetry was handcrafted in our Ferrara collection and painted in a soft white that keeps the room feeling light and calm throughout the day. It works naturally with the available light, giving the kitchen a gentle airiness that suits the cottage setting well. Aged brass knobs and cup handles from Perrin and Rowe were chosen to finish the cabinetry, their warm tone and vintage quality adding a layer of character that feels entirely at home in a kitchen like this.

The oak hardwood worktop is one of the most loved features of the finished space. Its natural grain and warm tones bring depth and richness to the room, sitting beautifully alongside the soft white Shaker cabinetry. An aged brass Perrin and Rowe tap completes the sink area with the same considered charm, a small detail that adds a great deal to the overall feel of the kitchen. The project extended well beyond the kitchen itself. A monk bench and bespoke shallow shelving were crafted to create an enclosed snug area, a quiet corner for reading or simply sitting away from the bustle of the rest of the house. Understair storage was carefully designed to make the most of the available space, and a functional office area was incorporated to ensure the home worked as well on a practical level as it does aesthetically.

Taken together, every element of the Putley Common project reflects the same care and intention. A cottage kitchen and the spaces around it, designed to be lived in fully and enjoyed for a very long time.
